Oh, I had leather gloves before. They mostly worked, but if I grabbed a bit too hard, a big thorn might make its way through. And then they’re basically ruined. Plus, they were much shorter, so my arms were getting pricked unless I donned other protective gear. The hand portion of these is thick enough to firmly grab the blackberry brambles, and even pull when necessary (they love to root if they touch down, wind their way into the fence, etc.). My arms are prick-free since these go all the way to my elbows. Dexterity is what you would expect from thick-ish leather, not great, but not terrible. They are fairly pliable, so no loss of dexterity from stiffness, just from the thickness.
The only downside is that they are likely going to be too small for most men. I bought the large since I have long fingers for a woman, and they fit just a *tiny* bit on the big side…not sure if the medium would work. The arm portion is also going to be snug if your arms are on the larger side. They fit my arms with a *little* room to spare, but I could see these not fitting someone with large forearms (muscular or otherwise).
But they work great for me, and now my blackberry patch is weeded and the brambles are up on the supports, so I can hopefully have a…wait for it…fruitful season. 🙂
