I’m pretty handy with woodworking tools and had considered making a similar template out of scrap wood and sealed with some polyurethane. This was such a great design though.

First, the holes are color coded so you can easily tell which holes go with which plants. If you use markers to make similar color dots on the seed packets, it takes all the guesswork out.

Second, I wasn’t a fan of a big hunk of plastic, but it’s super easy to rinse. I would have probably used a scrap of 1/2” wood, but the edges on the plastic square actually help anchor the template (and make for neat squares without the traditional slats or strings).

Third, I love the little dibber thing. It has an internal magnet so it snaps into a slot in the template itself, so you won’t lose it. I have no need for the little scoop, but it has that too.

Fourth, the included sheet is a nice guide. I laminated it so I could use it in the garden but note that some plants may differ in spacing. For example, vining cukes grown vertically can be planted more closely than bush varieties.

The weakest part of this product is the little removable seed funnel. I didn’t use it and didn’t see a need for it. It’ll just be a thing to lose, although it does fit nicely in the center hole and almost acts like a “foot” in the middle.
